Winter is Coming!
Something about living in a mountain town makes you feel like Fall is a little rushed. Not only has the weather already changed to what many would consider winter conditions, it seems like many of the Halloween-themed events have come and gone, over a week before October 31st!
Something about living in a mountain town makes you feel like Fall is a little rushed. Not only has the weather already changed to what many would consider winter conditions, it seems like many of the Halloween-themed events have come and gone, over a week before October 31st! I also feel like little is planned between Halloween and Thanksgiving (I guess in fear of what the weather will do?) Given this, I think it's our duty to savor what's left of Fall, whatever that means to you! Celebrate Halloween, make your favorite Fall dish (hopefully something with squash or pumpkin), and think warm thoughts :) Because yes, winter is coming, even if Winter doesn't officially start until December 21st.
Fall Events
Farmers Markets: The last regular season Durango Farmers Market is this Saturday, 9 am - noon. I'm amazed at how long the growing season has been for our local farmers and was still able to purchase tomatoes and pepper at the last market! (There will be a seasonal harvest market on November 19th and a holiday market on December 10th.)
The Peach Valley Produce stand at the Durango High School as well as the Twin Buttes farm stand also stop operation at the end of October.
Pumpkin Patches: This is the last weekend to visit the pumpkin patches: Falfa Pumpkin Patch and Jack-a-lope Acres.
Live Music: This is the last week for weekly live music at Ska on Thursdays and Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Durango Hot Springs. (There should still be live music at 11th street and The Office.)
Spoketober: There's still time to participate in the first annual Spoketober. Remaining events include a Kids Halloween Parade on October 27th at the Powerhouse Science Center and Karoke at 8th Ave Tavern on October 28th.
Halloween Events: DGO Magazine is hosting a Halloween party at the Garage on Saturday, October 29th. The Elks Lodge is putting on a haunted house, also on October 29th and Halloween night. Durango Cruiser Ride (@durangocruiserride on insta) has their last bike ride of the season on October 27th at 5:30 pm. Yes, costumes are highly encouraged.
Wine Tasting at The Rochester: The Rochester is hosting a 4-part series of wine tasting, the first one was on October 13th. The remaining dates are October 27th, November 10th and December 15th. I went to the first tasting, and it was so much fun! We tasted some fabulous wines and the tasting itself was very informative.
