Durango: August 21 - 27
Another weeknd, another alpine lake hike (or two.) I swear I do more than just hike/run trails although that seems to be a big part of it. Working as a raft guide last Summer disallowed me from spending time in the mountains, so I'm trying to make the most of it this year.
Another weeknd, another alpine lake hike (or two.) I swear I do more than just hike/run trails although that seems to be my dominant source of time spent this Summer. Working as a raft guide last Summer disallowed me from spending time in the mountains, so I'm trying to make the most of it this year. Plus I'm training for the Imogene Pass Race that's coming up in less than 3 weeks (yikes), and I'm trying not to die/low-key freaking out that I may have signed up for something ridiculously hard. Fake it till you make it, right? Or in my case, sign up for something you never thought you could possibly do and then just . . . figure it out. Hooray!
Ice Lake and Island Lake definitely lived up to the hype. And although it was significantly more crowded than any trail I've ever been to since living in Durango, it didn't detract from the experience. Crater Lake (an 11 mile out and back that starts at Andrew Lake) was also very enjoyable. It's definitely not the awe-inspiring blue hue that you get with Ice Lake but affords a more tranquil walk in the woods feel.
Anywho, lots of events on the calendar this week. And if you're sending your precious babies back to school this week, bless your heart. (I mean that in the most genuine and non-sarcastic way. Really, good luck out there!)

Looking Ahead - Ticketed Events
The annual San Juan Brewfest is this weekend. You can buy a ticket for Friday or Saturday. This coincides with the Thirsty 13 Half Marathon happening on Saturday, which I've been told is a mostly-downhill race that ends at Ska Brewing. Sounds like a good time.
Ska's Anniversary Party which features (lots of) beer, live music and art is coming up on Saturday, September 9th.
Local First invites you to their annual Harvest Dinner on Saturday, September 16th.
