Durango: Ah October!

To know Fall is to love Fall, and to know Fall is to experience it in nature. This past weekend I drove to Ridgway; I couldn't wait to catch a glimpse of the changing Aspens.

Leaf peeping in Ouray

"Fall is the bessssst," my friend from NYC texts me. He's just spent the week in upstate New York. And I'd have to agree. To know Fall is to love Fall, and to know Fall is to experience it in nature. This past weekend I drove to Ridgway; I couldn't wait to catch a glimpse of the changing Aspens. This drive, at any time of year, is magical. But seeing the little pockets and pops of color made it that much more captivating. The gentle cooling off, seeing the yellowest yellow I've ever seen, the campfires, I can't say enough good things about Fall. As much as I've loved Summer, I'm glad that Fall beckons us to slow down a bit, enjoy the harvest, plan some cozy dinner parties, take a drive to see the leaves...

Speaking of, I found some amazing Fall colors outside of Ouray at Crystal Lake/Hayden TH (on the Silverton side), but there are also some fantastic pockets in Silverton as well. I'm sure there are hikes in the high country where the changing Aspens can be found and a drive to Telluride this week would surely be rewarding. I think it will be at least a week before you see a big change in La Plata Canyon or between here and Purgatory Resort, but things are changing by the day. Happy leaf peeping!
